Find ease and freedom in your life with ADHD.

So you have ADHD…

ADHD is not a Do I really need couples therapy?

I get it you and your partner are both busy people and there is a negative stigma against therapy. So often couples wait until the last ditch effort to get therapy and by then one or both are already emotionally out the door. If you are struggling with communication, conflict, sex, money or other difficulties don’t let it fester and get bigger. You can learn new skills and tools to reconnect more positively with your partner.

Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy

Emotion Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) is the type of couples therapy we use at Encounter. There are many ways to do couples therapy and many don’t work so well. “I” statements, not interrupting and communication exercises might work well for one day, but then you are often back to where you started - angry, pursuing/withdrawing and alone. EFT is a modality of couples therapy that helps couples uncover their destructive cycles of conflict and communication and find a deeper and lasting connection with one another.  It is the fastest growing modality of couples therapy with studies proving it as an extremely effective and empirically validated form of relationship counseling.EFT takes a deeper look at a couple's communication issues, perceptions, behaviors, emotions, and wounds that cause couples to repeat the same cycle of conflict or negativity over and over again.  The counselor spends time understanding both partner's experiences in the relationship and begins to untangle where it might have gone off track so that the couple can find lasting connection and trust again.  The goal is to find healing within oneself and the relationship and create a healthy and safe connection for the couple.
